In 1936, as British Palestine teeters on the edge of rebellion, a young man drifts between his rural village and the restless energy of Jerusalem. Across the land, farmers, dockworkers, and high-society activists begin to resist colonial rule, unaware that the catastrophe of 1948 looms just twelve years ahead.
Annemarie Jacir’s (Wajab) most ambitious film to date, Palestine 36 reconstructs a lost world with rare archival footage, restored villages, and a cast that spans generations. Hiam Abbass (Succession, The Visitor) is quietly commanding as Hanan, a peasant matriarch, while Jeremy Irons (House of Gucci, Lolita) plays a British commissioner watching the empire fray. More here.
